Current status for Film Trainees

Having just completed a recruitment drive onto the scheme in February 2012 we are now NOT looking for new trainees.

We do interview potential trainees about twice a year -  depending on the demand and number of feature film productions. When the scheme re-opens we will advertise it on our website, Twitter and Facebook. So make sure you follow us!

The Trainee Placement Scheme helps those who already have some film experience or good quality training under their belt. Through the scheme film trainees have the chance to develop skills and cultivate strong networks in the film industry.

We give film trainees the opportunity to earn while they learn on paid placements with film productions shooting in the UK. We are currently looking for applications from film trainees to work on feature film productions in craft and technical departments from March 2012.

IndustryHaving undergone some initial short training, the trainees can be employed by UK film productions for short periods of between 4 and 18 weeks.

Are you eligible to apply to the Trainee Placement Scheme?

We are seeking applications from talented and committed trainee level crew, with the following experience:

  • Graduates from a Skillset Film or Media Academy  and graduated in the past 18 months (to check visit Film or Media Academy)
  • New to the industry, having  completed, in the past 18 months, a Skillset funded New Entrant Training Programme;
  • Neither of the above, but able to provide two testimonials from professionals who have recently worked in the UK Film Industry.

Applicants who have previously had paid work in the film industry MUST have commenced that work less than 12 months ago. Trainees will be placed on the scheme database for up to 12 months.

The following numbers of trainees are required across the following departments:Training

  • Camera (including lighting)– 14
  • Editing – 4
  • Costume and Wardrobe – 6
  • Art Department (including props) – 14
  • Production Sound – 9
  • Script supervisors – 5
