What is the SIF?

What is the Skills Investment Fund (SIF)?

The Skills Investment Fund (SIF) is a training levy on films shooting wholly or partially in the UK. The funds contribute to Creative Skillset’s Film Skills Fund and are used to directly support the next generation of filmmaking talent through the UK Film Skills Strategy, A Bigger Future 2.

Established in September 1999, in partnership with PACT, the Motion Picture Association, BECTU and the BFI, the SIF is administered by Creative Skillset on behalf of the industry.

Creative Skillset’s research identifies skills gaps and ensures training and support is available for new entrants choosing a career in the film industry and for industry professionals building on their skills and qualifications.

The Creative Skillset Film Skills Fund is investing up to £150,000 in the Film Craft and Technical Trainee Placement Scheme.

“Our industry’s reputation is built on the quality of its workforce so it is essential that we continue to train and develop our crew. By paying the SIF, we are funding the training and provision of high quality trainees into industry, in the areas where they are most needed.” Roy Button, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Warner Bros Productions
